American Express eGift Cards are delivered directly to your email inbox and can be used at any U.S. merchant that accepts American Express — no physical card required. You can check your eGift Card balance using the same amexgiftcard.com balance check online portal as physical cards, making it easy to monitor your available funds at any time. Once you have your eGift Card details, you’re ready to shop online, by phone, or by mail order.
eGift Cards cannot be used for transactions that require a physical card to be present. They also cannot be converted to a physical Amex Gift Card.

Check Your Email for the eGift Card Delivery

After purchase, check your email inbox — and your spam or junk folder — for the eGift Card delivery email. Most eGift Cards arrive within 5 minutes, but delivery can take up to 24 hours in some cases.

Access Your eGift Card Details

Click the link in the delivery email, or visit https://balance.amexgiftcard.com directly to view your eGift Card details, including your card number, Valid Thru date, security code, and current balance.

Note Your Card Number, Valid Thru Date, and Security Code

Record your eGift Card number, the Valid Thru date, and the security code (CVV) displayed on your eGift Card. You will need all three pieces of information when making purchases online.

Use Your eGift Card at Online Merchants

When checking out at a U.S. online merchant that accepts American Express, enter your eGift Card number, Valid Thru date, and security code in the payment fields, just as you would with a regular credit card.

Select 'Credit' or 'Debit' as the Payment Method

At checkout, choose Credit or Debit as your payment type — do not select ‘Gift Card’ as this may cause the transaction to be declined. Your eGift Card functions like a prepaid American Express card.

Optionally Add Your eGift Card to a Digital Wallet

For added convenience, you can add your eGift Card to a compatible digital wallet such as Apple Pay, Google Pay, or Samsung Pay. Once added, you can use your digital wallet for eligible in-store and in-app purchases wherever American Express is accepted.
If you or the recipient haven’t received the eGift Card email within 24 hours, use the Order Tracker at amexgiftcard.com/trackorder to resend the eGift Card or update the delivery email address.
